Installation data accessible via Internet of Things
VE.Direct LoRaWAN module with Victron: bringing IoT to life
Recently the VE.Direct LoRaWAN module was launched, due to a collaboration between TRIMM and Victron Energy. This module makes it possible to monitor small installations remotely. TRIMM did not only develop the software of this module, but also the hardware. Developing this took nearly three months. Earlier, TRIMM had already developed the VRM portal for Victron Energy.
The module
The module makes it possible to monitor information about connected installations (for example: accustatus or the power of solar panels) from anywhere in the world, through desktop or mobile phone. One could think of small, electrical boats that are being rented. By means of the module, each night can be remotely checked if every boat is actually charging. Notifications are being sent hourly, indicating the status of the boats. Victron is currently leading the way in this discipline.
Long Range Wide Area Network
LoRaWAN is a wireless network that operates at a frequence of 868 Mhz. It has a big reach and it doesn't use much current. The VE.Direct to LoRaWAN module can send updates through this network hourly to an Internet of Things (IoT) gateway nearby. An IoT gateway uses the infrastructure of 'The Things Network'. In case there no coverage within a certain area, it is possible to add a new gateway to the gateway network. A subscription is not needed to use the network.

TRIMM is currently connecting existing and new devices in a smart way to the online world. This can be done through LoRaWAN but also in many other ways, depending on the client's use-case. Contact us if you want to know more.
